Founder
In 1984, Barbara Christensen had read one too many stories about children being abused or neglected. Not known as a woman who sat back and let others tackle the hard work, Barbara decided to be the person to ensure that San Diego’s children were safe from those who would harm them. In her legendary charismatic and don’t-take-no-for-an-answer style, she recruited nine friends and formed the St. Germaine Auxiliary to the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation. In 1987, Barbara won the Woman of Dedication award from the Salvation Army, symbolizing what a compassionate and remarkable leader she was in her mission to prevent child abuse.
In 2006, St. Germaine obtained it’s 501(2)(3) status as St. Germaine Children’s Charity. From a modest beginning, Barbara’s dream has grown into a successful, all-volunteer charitable organization, continuing her legacy dedicated to protecting children in San Diego.
